Hi all -

Since joining this group last migration season and making a few
experiments with my Nak CM-300s (along with some initial zeppelin
building experiments) I have been less than fully active here,
remaining in web mode. I did get some interesting recordings last
spring of intersecting flocks of Snow Geese, and various isolated
other wetland birds.

But having read here so much of your use of the Shure 183's I have
bought some on eBay, and want to use them this fall and spring.
Between the fact that I had to reformat my laptop hard drive and in
the process lost a lot of search results and bookmarks about mic
techniques, and the fact that Yahoo has a pitiful archive search
engine, I find myself needing to ask for advice and lanks to
suggestions for ways to deploy the 183's, and mehtods of wind
reduction. I am not withoput imagination, so I have some ideas, plus
I did find this site:

http://www.trackseventeen.com/mic_arrays/

(Which I may even have gotten here?)

Which does give me a starting point. But I'd appreciate any other
suggestions. As yet I'm recording onto my laptop hard drive, with a
mobile pre (Tascam US-122) with Samplitude as my DAW. I also have the
tryout copy of Audition, and may try using that as well, but a
mini-disc recorder is in the near future.

As to subjects, I will probably initially concentrate on my obsession
with the large flocks of Snow Geese, Sandhills and various ducks here
in the CA CV.

Thanks as always
