Yes Chuck I am the moderator and I am NOT telling people to stop this
particular thread but when there are accusations flying around and it gets
nasty, then I will draw the line.

What Syd said was a valid question to a post, what Lou also said was valid
too, if we all stuck to the initial topic it would be grand but there are
folk who take things too personal.
Unfortunately, you can not see body language when reading e-mails or the
twinkle in ones eye. Yes there is a delete key; I use it more than not.
Don't take EVERYONE literally, it is not healthy. Unfortunately this has
been a problem for too long here. I have been reprimanded for totally
innocent comments and I believe Lou was at a gasp also.
The majority of members here are birders; they are in most of the
introduction letters I see.
Conservation is a huge thing to me, I mentioned the Artic refuge where
millions of birds are born but I was told I was too political because I sai=
d
we should stop drilling there!!!!
We should set our own guild lines for recording ethics, but who would write
them and agree?

You're a moderator. It's in your power to stop the thread, but
before you do:

    (1) I'm reminded of the ABA's (American Birding Association)
struggle over whether to stop talking about conservation and just stick
to the fine points of identification. In the end they managed to do
both, realizing that without conservation, there will be nothing to
identify.
    (2) People who emphasize recording (this list) can add a lot to the
discussion, which has otherwise been dominated by birders.
    (3) We have our own ethical responsibilities. After all, we are in
the field recording, some of us playing back, some of us selling or
sharing recordings that might be used for playback, etc. Don't we owe
users (and the birds/frogs/platypus') some rational guidelines on their use=
?
    (4) There's always the delete key.
