Hi Jim,
 I wasn't exactly thinking these units were in any way appropriate for
serious nature recording. I was a little mad at the PCM-D1's price tag and
was noticing a design trend at Sony, so I shot off my mouth. These units ma=
y
be excellent for nature recording, looks as though the memory size is
lacking for recordings of any real length. I am sure providing some
preamplification you could make even quiet ambience recordings, but then we
are defeating the purpose of handheld again ;^)
