This may be a weird solution for phone recording, but I really
like the results, and I'm like using my portable gear for this.
Here's what I do:

I have a set of Microphone Madness in-ear binaural mics on a
stereo miniplug. They're fairly terrible for recording anything
important (or loud, or LF), but they are happy with the Sony MD
plug-in power, and I don't want to throw them away...

Since they're in-ear, foam-covered earbuds with bendy hooks that
go round the top of your ear, they are virtually "not there"
when worn. You can hear past them without obstruction.

So I put on the MM mics, and then put on my usual Radio Schlock
headset with mic right over the mics. The headset of course
plugs into any headset compatible phone.

The left binaural mic gets a very strong clear acoustic coupling
from the headset, while the two mics get a very decent close
recording of my voice. In post, my voice is a little attenuated
on the left channel, and the phone is crystal clear. I can use
the left channel as a mono mix, or I can keep the stereo with
phone on left.

There's no electronics involved, but sometimes that's an
advantage.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Telephone Recordings Advice needed

Hello Everyone:

Recently for a series of tele-classes I have been recording onto
a
Sony MZ R37 through a Radio Shack "telephone recording control"
Interface directly into the 1/8 inch mic input.

The problem I am having is hum. Is there a better system out
there
with less hum and where the "other side" of the conversation is
a
little louder as well?

I also use an HHB Portadisc and find it difficult to record from
the "speakerphone" because I am raising children and the
ambiance can
be chaotic around here.

Does the group have any suggestions?

Thanks to you all beforehand
