All digital audio recorders introduced in the past year or so have had significant issues caused by poorly written software. The Edirol R-1, Marantz PMD660 and PMD671, Sound Devices 722, and the new M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 have all needed one or more firmware updates to resolve problems. In the case of Sony's Hi-MD recorders, the issues have been with the Sonic Stage software that runs on your PC. Unfortunately, if you purchase a new machine, you need to be prepared to deal with software upgrades. It's a fact of life with digital recorders. --oryoki ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
