Hi John

If you buy the pmd-660 straight off the shelf, there is no comparison with
the HHB-500. The pre-amps on the 660 are bloody awful; weight and
convenience are the only advantages I can see of the 660 in its present
state. However, if you buy from Oade Brothers, they will modify the pre-amp=
s
but the price of the machine shoots up drastically to around $800 from $425
presently offered on eBay. Oade brothers will tell you also that there is a
3-4 week wait for the modified unit.
If you do a lot of computer editing and don=92t like doing it in real time,
flashcard recording is the way to go and the pmd-660 has the ability of
recording .wav format.
The hiMD option also lets you record in .wav format but it doesn=92t give y=
ou
the facility of phantom power etc but you can transfer (once) digitally as =
a
file.
Save you money and step up to the sound devices 722 if you can. There is
nothing I can say to discredit the machine.

SO DO MOST PEOPLE FEEL THAT THE PMD660 IS NOW THE PREFERRED FIELD RECORDIN=

MACHINE SURPASSING THE HHB MDP500 PORTABLE MINIDISC RECORDER?

MUCH THANKS FOR ANY COMMENTS AS I MAY NEED TO INVEST IN ANOTHER RECORDING =
