All I have heard about this device Rip is that the pre-amps are a little to=
o
loud! People that have bought the machine are basically happy with it as a
hand-held unit. Others that have gone to a similar machine have bought the
PMD-660 but again, the pre-amps in that machine are also a little too loud.
One thing I hear about the edirol is that you can only use up to a 2 gig
flash card, not much bother really, just put other cards in your bag...

The birds are taking a pounding that's for sure, I have recorded the dawn
chorus for nearly 35 years since I was 13 and it is getting quieter and not
just this country, (USA) Europe is suffering with loss of habitat as is the
case here, their breeding grounds are becoming threatened and the birdcage
trade is not relenting. Couple that with West Nile virus and you have a wee
problem..

Make sure you get to see me in DC on the 20th and voice off about the
critters home land/lands :)

Quiet back east.

To much more experienced nature recordists.

I know you all have commented on the limitations of the Roland Edirol R-1
before but could I ask again how some of you experts like its features, wha=
t

its drawbacks, fixes are.

I got it to go longer than my Sony PCM-M1 Dat recorder. I think I'll keep i=
t

but my number 1 concern was listening to the many hours for review when I
get home. Much of what I find interesting is not real loud so I have to
listen to it all. I guess. Ideas? That and it seems I'll be going thru a fe=
w

$$ fashcards.

comments on the Edirol R-1? i'm hoping I hear it was a solid pick but...

I have really learned lots from this list and I'm way less cockier than whe=
n

I first started. ( way less ) Thank you.

and on top of that, the birds / animals have been mostly boycotting me in
2005. Not doing anything different but a lot less bird / animal sounds in
general. Has it been a rough year on Owls / birds back east?,, they seem
quieter than last year but maybe its my imagination.

Thanks again.
