Today's (Aug 26) New York Times reports (page A8) that Paul Hoffman, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Dept. of the Interior, has proposed changes to the National Park Service basic policy. among the proposed changes, the elimination of this phrase: "the service will strive to preserve or restore the natural quiet and natural sounds associated with" the physical and biological resources of the parks.
