ifier Rob: thanks, too, for the valuable reference about noise in preamplifiers. I didn=B4t know that. When I mention the hiss present in the preamplifiers, it was recording in a quiet ambient (nature) Of course, if you record music it is no noticeable. I think it is not a malfunction in the R4, only what you get for the price. Compare with the SD 722 (2 channels at $2200 ) Yes, it is a shame to have to spend $800 or more to get acceptable noise performance.
