right now the archive standard is to digitise atleast
at 24/28.
the preferred method would be to use a high quality
external a-d convertor feeding ebu or spdif digital
signal to a card inside the computer.
the best preservation media at the moment seems to be
hard disc, especially in a raid 5 array, with tape
back up. you could use gold cdrs (they are becoming
available again) but should be ready to migrate fairly
quickly (say five years) to a better standard. if you
use cdrs, make them data cds, and do not mark or lable
the cds themselves. all cdrs have unique identiers (a
12 digit number, usually) and that can be recorded in
a log to make the identification certain.
you should also record basic information about the
recording in the riff tag, and preferably save as
bwave files.
