Martyn,
Two other details I should mention.  The Douglas fir nest trees were
both in mixed fir/aspen groves near some open meadows, not in dense fir
stands.  Both fir nest trees were very large and old, one was
lightening killed, both had a Flicker nest the owls were using.  Also
May and June seem the prime song time, they are winding down now.
My birds are in Payson canyon, south of Payson, UT and 8 and 19 miles
from my home.  If any of you want to come for some free bed and
breakfast and recording with me some time let me know ahead and we'll
see if I can coordinate my work schedule to host you.
