Continually putting everything on the hard disk is a loosing game. You
will outgrow any hard disk as you continue to record.

Instead of enlarging hard disk capacity, work out a system of archiving
your recordings to free up space. You should be archiving anything you
want to protect anyway. All your recordings on one hard disk is all your
eggs in one basket. In a instant everything you have can be gone if it's
not backed up. Preferably with multiple copies. Just use your hard disk
for current working files.

Many laptops can have larger hard disks put in them if necessary. It's
gotten a little harder to clone everything onto a new disk, especially
the OS, but it can be done.

Of course if it's just a excuse for a new laptop that's ok too.
