My MKH-20, a matched pair, came from a US source. And cost $1199 for the
pair. I don't know why, as they are usually hard fought over, but I was
the only bidder. It was in a unusual category on ebay. They never said
anything about the price and were good to deal with, but I bet they were
a bit unhappy. The mics, though sold as used were virtually new, I'm not
sure they had been used.

One MKH-30 from Russia, the other from Switzerland. I'm watching for
another of those and another MKH-70 that's a good price. MKH-30 is
really uncommon in the US.

One of the MKH-40's I have came from a pro sound rental place in
Atlanta, so I picked it up rather than having it shipped. The thing they
said was that their experience recently was no one wanted to pay the
money to rent them, everyone figured no one would notice if they rented
the cheaper ME mics instead. That probably applies to productions buying
mics too. I expect that's all too true, Americans are not interested in
sound quality, that's the message of the mp3 craze. It's not just sound,
I live in Georgia, the peach state, no chance of buying peaches near as
good as I could get as a kid. What they sell now would not have sold
back then.
