Greetings,

I'd like to put together a cd compilation of field recordings made in
Minnesota. (Which, by the way, doesn't mean you have to live here; only
that the recording itself was made here.) I'm hoping you'll be willing to
participate. If so, please email me offlist at

Guidelines are as follows. If any of these is a problem, let me know and
I'm sure we can work something out.

--Content: While not essential, it'd be nice to emphasize pieces which
embody characteristically Minnesotan phenomena: cold, water, local flora/
fauna, creeping conservatism, etc. Again: not essential, but preferred.

--Restrictions: Recordings must be non-participatory-- i.e., you shouldn't
make any of the sounds on the recording, nor can anyone "perform" for you.
(Of course, exceptions might be made for soundwalks, etc-- we can talk
about it if there are issues there.) Any sound copyrighted by someone else
is not permitted. 2-track audio captures only, unprocessed (minor eq,
fade-in, fade-outs are fine). Minor edits are ok if they're seamless and
utilitarian.

--Media to submit: Preferred medium is a wav or aiff on a data cd. An
audio cd's fine too. If you can only get your recording to me in some
other medium, just let me know and we'll make it happen. We have the
technology. Please no mp3s, unless that's the only format possible.

--Time limit: none. I reserve the right to edit pieces in the interest of
time conservation, but I won't do so without consulting you.

--Documentation: please email me the following info when you mail me your
track, as you'd like it to be presented: your name, title of track,
duration of track, where/ when made, gear used (recording device + mic),
your contact info, and any interesting anecdotes relating to the recording
(be as creative as you like here). Extensive info will be listed on a web
page in conjunction with the project; the cd packaging itself will likely
only list your name, your track name, and track length.

--Business: Your contribution to this project will assume we all know no
money will change hands as a result of our collaboration. I'm not thinking
particularly "big" here; I might make cds available on dollarcd.com for $1
apiece, which means no profit will be generated, but I'm open to other
ideas as well. If it winds up being distributed by a label, then I imagine
there *still* won't be any profit generated, but we'll see what happens
with that; in any case, I know I'll be spending some of my own money to
put the project together, which doesn't worry me. Maybe I'll try to get a
grant for it or something. Again, let me know if there are any issues with
this.

--Deadline: March 1st.

--Nomenclature: do you have any ideas for a title for this collection?

Anyone who's interested: please contact me offlist at

Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks for you time. Hope you're interested!
