It was what was expected in Hawaii in the 50's in those tsunami warnings. (Note back then they were called tidal waves, not sure exactly when tsunami took over as the name). My only point is that in my experience if you depend only on that as your early warning, you may have no warning at all. I've certainly read of plenty of cases where it did apply as well.
