The transfer/conversion process is very simple. Sony's directions
spell out the steps out clearly. They might be too easy.
I couldn't agree more about the stupidity of burying the manual
record function deep in the menu and then making it default to auto
gain after "Stop is hit." Further, its a struggle to read the LCD
menu even in good lighting. However, the power usuage is so low, one
can leave it in pause for long periods of time
We've been using Sony MD disks all semester with no problem (for
making MD recordings). HiMD disks are required for uncompressed
recording.
One can only make _one_ HiMD-> oma transfer. Because of this, as-is,
there's a chance one can lose files. This hasn't been happening to us
yet (%!^ on wood). We should complain to Sony though because this can
be changed in the SS software.
Soundwise, I'd compare the A->D to the Sony D8 DAT walkman, maybe
better. Not detrimental.
The Rode NT-4's we are using crank out enough signal to keep the
built-in mic pre from being an immediate liability.

Its definitely great to get 16 bits uncompressed in such a small pkg
without an extra deck or converter box.
