I believe the 18 bit is their A/D, they transmit 16 bit. Not uncommon for A/D's to be higher bit rate than the format. Only sampling rate I've seen quoted for it over the years I've been aware of it was 44khz. Of course all those folks could be wrong. There are other ways to limit frequency range as well.
