24bit and low end recording

I don't have the background to know the importance of what Pohlmann
has to say. And I don't have the complete equipment treasure chest
and access that Rob has. But there is no question from my equipment
that I am getting more out of 24bit than 16bit. If I am limited to 20
bit or not I can not tell from my equipment because it is not fair to
compare my old 20 bit a/d to my newer 24bit a/d due to quality of
constructions. I think when we talk about noise floors it is not
wood or cement. Probably closer to being a cloud that makes a 20 bit
barrier hard for me to believe.

Laura, welcome.
Minidisc works well and a lot of the insects are easy to get close
to. Keep reading and do not think that you can not get into this for
little to no money. I have posted some pretty cheap recording
equipment designs here and they all work. With time the equipment
changes and I slowly pick up some nice stuff but it still can be done
cheap. Also, I would urge you not to use others recordings even if
they do give you permission. Treat others work here as examples for
new ideas and places to go. The self found sound is part of the
process that gives the end product its personal value and reward.
