Jim,
You really miss out by only having them in the winter. It is really lovely
being in the boreal forest or the Rockies with several of these guys singin=
g
their hearts out. My recordings do not do justice to these birds.
Getting hot here - probably up to 75 C today 8-)

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Winter Wrens
Here is some information on the Winter Wren from the Cornell Laboratory of
Ornithology:
http://birds.cornell.edu/BOW/WINWRE/
And an interesting quote from the above article:
"Eastern birds have a repertoire of one to three simply organized songs, bu=
t
in the West, Winter Wrens sing faster, more-complex songs and have
repertoires of 30 or more songs."
Here in Prescott Arizona we have Winter Wrens in the mountains on a regular
basis but only in the winter. And I have never heard them sing but they do
give feeble little chirps.
