If twelve feet would be long enough and you need it heavy duty, check out the push poles that boaters use in shallow ponds. They are made to attach a duck bill shape shoe on the small end and that is used to push a small boat such as a duck hunting blind. The pole is a two piece aluminum extension pole, locking with spring loaded pins like a tent pole.
