Looks about the size of the Mixpre and if it is then maybe it will be OK! I
like the controls and the sturdiness of the sound devices units, maybe this
will be the one to go with? Funny really, I just bought a bag for the Mixpre
from Portabrace and it has an empty pocket for it!!!!!!!!

Subject: [Nature Recordists] more Sound Devices 722

The Sound Devices web site has updated information on the dimensions
of the new 722 and 744T models:

722:
2.2 lb (1 kg) including internal battery and hard disc
8.08" x 4.41" x 1.65" (59 cu in)

744T: 2 ounces heavier, same dimensions

That's very compact. The 722 is half the weight and 38% of the volume
of the HHB Portadisc: 4.4 lb (2 kg), 10" x 2.2" x 7.1" (156 cu in).
Now I'm concerned that the 722 may be too small for easy use of the
controls!

Sound Devices has added a FAQ page:
http://www.sounddevices.com/tech/7-faq.htm

In the FAQ they reveal that you can't record at 24/192 to a
Compactflash card because today's cards don't keep up with the stream
of data.
