In actuality, the point in the article seems to be pointing out
something about the new TV format that's a problem, not in M/S, which
will avoid even the TV format problem. M/S, by it's very nature mixes
well back to mono. It sounds like the new TV format is not going to work
well with spaced stereo or artificially mixed stereo.

As far as it being a problem that listening to the raw M/S feed is
different than listening to the final stereo, this is somewhat of a
problem. I have found that with practice I can listen to the raw and
know how the stereo will turn out. I listen primarily to the mid channel
in my mind. Sometimes I even go farther and just listen to the mid in
the headphones in both ears, cutting out the side channel entirely. With
practice either method works.

I do also, via a Sound Devices MP2, have the capability to listen to one
possible stereo mix from the M/S, basically the 50:50 mix. Again, you
have to imagine what other mixes might sound like.

These are more like features of recording with M/S, not problems to my
mind. They do mean it takes a little practice to get up to speed with
M/S recording.
