One more thought on this subject. The concert tapers groups have slowly come to accept the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 (JB3) hard disc recorder as a worthwhile device for on-location recording. The JB3 has an input for a digital optical signal coming from an external pre-amp. The JB3 just records the data stream from the pre-amp; its own pre-amp and A/D converter are not involved. Used in this way, the JB3 is a workable replacement for a DAT recorder. You can purchase the JB3 for about $275 from several online sources. The $325 Denecke AD-20 is one less-expensive preamp that works with the JB3. But now you're up to $600... It's better to stick with a $300 minidisc recorder. --oryoki ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
