On Bernie's advice I purchased a pair of these mics and I think they
sound great. I have used them with my Sound Devices preamp. They need
the external power and I assume part of the reason they sound good is
the preamp, I don't know how they would do without it, perhaps Bernie
can't help on that question.
BTW, I don't know that I would call this system non-professional, they
sound good enough for potential professional use as well.

I often take a pair of Sony ECM55Bs with me. Thse lavalieres are
compact and light. They're also sensitive, omnis, and "relatively"
noise-free. Tie a string around a tree about the diameter of the
distance between your ears and tack the mics 180 degrees opposite.
You'll get terrific stereo recordings and even a credible binaural
result. We use this system in lieu of the more expensive "heads."
Works just fine.
