a few comments, after using parabolic reflectors (and
not just for bird song) for over 20 yars.

It almost seems axiomatic that less efficient
parabolic reflectors(usually because the parabola is
not perfect) make for less coloration.

A spherical reflector is not efficient, but it does
not have a single focus either. this fact was used in
many early satellite dishes with multiple feed horns
aimed at different satellites.

The comibination should be useful. i have used acrylic
salad bowls, nowhere near parabolic, with a lapel mike
at the point where i got the best sound and have done
intereviews of a frail old lady on sand dunes, where
nothing else worked. was there coloration? there was,
but not as bad it could have been, and there was
nothing else i could use.
