Great idea, Jeremiah. I've tried that and it works just fine.
Alternatively, there's an analog matrix, the MS38 (or updated
equivalent), manufactured by Audio Engineering Associates in
Pasadena, CA, that is simple to use, exceptionally quiet and doesn't
take up lots of channels on a mixing board. Either way, I actually
prefer mixing through at least one analog stage because, to me, the
end result tends to be warmer and more engaging
texturally...especially with natural soundscapes.
