I don't know about lifetimes, Steve, but I began backing up my
archive to CDRs in the 80s and they're still good and playable w/o
any error that I can detect. It ain't exactly a lifetime and, in
fact, may be a time-bomb not unlike the hydrotropism issue related to
some analog audio tape manufactured in the late 60 and 70s. So far,
it's good.
