I also agree with you that a good microphone is more important than the
recorder or the pre-amplifier. So if the funds are limited, then it is stil=
l
better to first get a more expensive microphone than investing into a new
recorder. The recorder could be upgraded later in order to get the full pot=
ential
out of the microphone.
