Hi,
I'm a new member and haven't introduced myself yet, still getting a
feel for the group, but my name is Conall.
regarding your blank DAT tape...it may be that the tape was not fully
rewound to the beginning, so you have no absolute time written to the
very beginning of the tape. If you rewind the tape to the beginning
and find there is no absolute time written, and the tape counter mode
is set to display absolute time, than that is the problem.
DAT must have absolute time written to the very beginning of the
tape, or it will be confused.
I have made the same error while recording music, and now always
record a few minutes of silence and make sure I have absolute time
written at the start of each and every DAT before going out in the
field.
Try writing a fresh signal up to the point where you think the
existing track may start, and see if it will play back the original
recording.
Hope this helps.
