Well, call me a monkey's uncle. In addition to ATRAC, Sony's new Hi- MD system supports PCM. Read about it here: http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/4270 There's a link on this page that downloads a Word document containing Hi-MD specs. Some other interesting notes from the Word document: * A Hi-MD machine can re-format an original minidisc, resulting in almost twice as much data storage space. * Hi-MD uses Microsoft's FAT, so files on the minidisc are visible to a PC or Mac connected by USB. * Uploads to as well as downloads from the computer are (finally) supported, presumably in digital form and at high speed. MSRP of the fancy MZ-NH1 Hi-MD recorder is $400. --oryoki ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
