They have John Neville's address and are forging it to get onto the list.
At least that is what it looked like on the one message I expanded the
header on and looked at on my server (Open BSD - UNIX)
Those just tick me off. Some are getting really dangerous. They are
scanning mail and getting addresses and peoples names subjects and content.
They make it sound like it is really a message from a person you correspond
with and have even a plausible attachment. I was ready to open one when I
somehow glanced at the address and my poor old senile mind actually
recognized that it was not the address of the person it was supposed to be
from. Went into the server and sure enough it was some garbage. Another
one everything checked on and I opened it - LUCKLY it had contained a worm
but had been stripped on the way to me. WHEW!! It is getting so bad I am
going to start reading stuff on the server and bitch at people who send me
html and refuse to use plain text.
Mail is now being scanned by some unethical servers that it goes through
getting to you. Addresses subjects and some contact etc are harvested.
Even if you post your address nowhere it is being picked up. Of course I
have had my alias for years and three old addresses forward to that. My
addresses are all over the internet so I just grin and bear it with the
spam. The thing that really puzzles me is that I have a university address
that does not forward anyplace and that I have NEVER used nor sent an email
from. It still gets 40 - 50 spams a day.
But still not as bad as the telemarketers and WE DO NOT HAVE THE NO CALL
LIST!! Our politicians probably bought off by the telemarketers.

I can handle that just fine, but it's more like 20 - 30 virus emails a
day. Plus another 50 or so assorted variety spam that slips through the
filters. Plus several trying to get me to reveal all passwords and
account numbers I ever owned. And, I have my ISP's spam filter on (it
catches about 100/day according to it's reports) and my own local
filtering. It just keeps escalating. I'm now deleting nearly every email
that comes through, just the occasional one that's real.
I mostly posted that to remind whoever is to
check their computer.
Since posting that I've had three more from songbird. That PC is busy.
