You can still buy Cooledit from the www.syntrillium.com website while
they have stocks left. The program is now called Adobe Audition which
has all the cooledit features plus some very nice features the size of
your Ram may be a problem though as the thread may tend to stick
somewhat, its best run with at least 512 mb of Ram.
I would get use to practicing with your recording setup before
attempting to make a parabolic setup because once your hooked you will
probably end up wanting the best made by Klas at www.telinga.com

Subject: [Nature Recordists] New to this all
Hello,
Another "newbie" here! To preface this entire email I will describe my
recently acquired recording setup and say that, for the money I paid, I
am happy to use it for a while. Recorder: Marantz "Superscope" C-206 LP
Cassette Recorder (Mono, c1980, paid $10); Microphone: SME ATM 55
Shotgun (new, paid 85$); Headphones: Sony; Power: Superscope
rechargeable battery pack or "D" alkalines (6).
Now on to some questions.
1) I have a 1.8 Ghz desktop computer with 256 MB RAM and a 30 GB hard
drive with 25GB available - what reasonably priced sound editing
software is recommended?
2) Can someone lead me to a source of DIY components for a simple
parabolic mic setup?
3) Is there any advice you would care to give to increase my chances of
making reasonably good bird song/nature recordings?
