I have done such recordings to the Portadisc using either the optical
digital route or USB. At least on my mac I get no such messages, but you
are correct, your computer is sending the copy protection bits of SCMS,
the Portadisc has SCMS in it even though it's a pro machine and should
have left it out or at least be able to turn it off. The fault lies with
your computer's software, a computer soundfile is not supposed to be
carrying SCMS.
Check and see if you can get it to go via USB. I'm not sure if SCMS is
sent via the USB audio protocol.
Or, if that won't work, burn a audio CD of the file, then transfer that
back into your computer to transfer. I'm pretty sure SCMS is not in the
Audio CD protocol.
The final way is to get one of the interface systems that defeats SCMS.
And if we all had the money we should sue the RIAA for every cent they
have for interfering with our recording. As far as I'm concerned the
RIAA is stealing from us.
