Backingup to hard drives is certainly quicker and more convenient than CD's, but if you whish to retain the backup material for 10 or 20 years or so then it must be transferred to a cd or dvd.as hard driver have a typical life of 3 to 5 years. So backing up to hard drives is fine but archiving is not.
