This is what I do - I use a 110 Gb Western Digital external HD, and I have 
my backup software set to back up all important files (including all sound 
files) differentially every afternoon at 2 pm (the only time I figure I'm 
unlikely to be on the computer). The backup volume is generally 25 Gb or 
so, and it takes about 10 minutes to complete the backup each day. No 
hassle. I also back up periodically to CD-R.
