Hi Rob; The yodel is a male aggression call directed towards other loons intruding = on his territory. If you can find a lake with more than one pair, you might= hear it at dusk or dawn but it is late in the season.Iceland sounds like a= great place.I was lucky enough to be recording in Prince Albert National P= ark, Saskatchewan ,Canada in late May and early June. This area has some of= the highest concentration of breeding Common Loon (Gavia immer) in the wor= ld.One lake had thirty-five breeding pairs. The recording was a shear delig= ht.
