Hi All, Just got back from Arizona and can confirm what Doug says! Gee
it=92s bloody hot, even the birds walk around with their mouths open,
phew!
It was 117f in Scottsdale. I got some great recordings while there, but
you had to get up early in the morning because of the excessive heat.
I have never seen so many doves; we are lucky if we see 4 Mourning Doves
a year here and talk about Hummingbirds!
One thing that saddens me is the ever increasing loss of habitat,
Scottsdale and going into Carefree is a =93Free for all,=94 Property
developers are literally destroying the Sonna desert and it makes you
wonder how the area can cope with the terrific strain on its resources!
I was talking to a guy that worked in the Montezuma district, he said
that Arizona is running out of water at an alarming pace, You see golf
courses totally irrigated with deep green fairways and greens for the
rich and country clubs with exotic shrubs & plants well irrigated that
are not indigenous to the desert. How sad is this! Mother Nature will
surely =93re-boot=94 itself, the loss of habitat for so many species is
crippling, many animals lay dead on the roads from the many fast moving
vehicles at night and day.
Cacti and succulents are destroyed from irresponsible people and litter
lines the roadways impaled on cacti!
When will we ever learn?

Well, the weather around central Arizona has been hellish - 117=BAF (47=BAC=
)
at
my house this week - that's just too hot to stick around. I'm off to the
high country of Colorado, where we'll be staying at 10,000' (3050M), and
where it's COOL!
I'll be loosely moderating (strictly moderating Martyn ;-)) from a slow
computer up there.
If there is any high-altitude sound or soundscape anyone wants, let me
know. We'll be hiking to 12,500 and higher. If any members will be in
south
central Colorado during the next few weeks, I'd like to meet up! We'll
be
near Gunnison/Crested Butte.
