Well, I won't trade you the wet and warm NW MN for where you came
from.

I am back from counting "Western Prairie Fringed Orchid" in the
Prairie's of NW MN. One of our "endangered". see:
http://nat_hist.sdstate.edu/cathcol/

I will do plant surveys as long as it does not stop me from the
sounds of the area. It was hardwork, warm and wet. The Sparrows
were something to behold.

These orchids like the low wetlands of the old beaches of lake
Agissiz which died 10,000 years ago. They seem to adapt about that
fast which is why they are in trouble.
see: http://www.und.edu/instruct/eng/fkarner/pages/agassiz.htm

I did get a chance to get to the top of a beach and record the
Chestnut-collared Longspur. A pleasant sounding little bird with a
good set of pipes that are needed in the windy prairie for this
little guy. All of the birds in this area seem to have adapted to be
able to yell above the strength of the wind. This guy was recorded
at over 50 yards and is the size of a house sparrow.
