Hi Syd,
Garrison Keillor's "A Prarie Home Companion" is a real American
institution! It's nationally syndicated and among those who listen to NPR
stations it's extremely well known (and loved, at least among everyone I
know... :) ).
You can find the show here:

and what's better it appears, like many publie radio shows, to be archived
online... :) Btw he's also written a few books, and Garrison also hosts a
short 5-minute spot, the Writer's Almanac, which features small bits on
literature and literary history tied to the day...

best,

PS one random sign of the show's cultural currency I heard last week ~ in
an interview with the new Catholic Archbishop in Boston (?) (who's taking
on the unenviable task of rehabilitating the church's relationship with
its parishoners in the wake of far-ranging scandal) the new appointee
mention that in preperation for the new job that he'd been eating
'powerdermilk biscuits.'
These fictional biscuits are one of the imaginary underwriters
"advertised" in the show as you might recall; as Garrison's tagline goes,
they give shy people the resolve to get up and do what has to be done....
they left the allusion unresolved as well. I was quite surprised!
