New technology is always more expensive to produce in the first 
generation. We have been doing this stuff for quite a while now, which 
enables us to develop new products more easily. This cost is then passed 
on to the consumer. Feature wise, the PMD670 is a major upgrade from the 
690. It has an entirely new engine, and adds many more features. All of 
the features of the 690 are still in the 670.

It was a puzzle when the new model had a lower number (670), but
thought little about it. Now, a price of $500 less than the PMD690,
makes me wonder what has been left out of the new model, or is this
related to things like market share, the economy, or the phase of the
moon. If the 670 is an improvement on the 690, then, perhaps it is a
good thing. Can someone from Marantz clarify the situation.
