Ive been noticing in my search for a portable minidisc recorder that there
are models out now that have NO outputs. Particularly Sony SPort NET MZ and
others in that league. Clearly they seem to be favoring the designs that
favor the predominant user, people who download FROM pc to MD only.
At 35 I am actually old enough to remember the time when average consumer
products came with multiple ins AND outs. WHen I was 13 someone bought me a
MONTGOMERY WARD boombox with tape and radio. That little unit lasted about
10 or more years before the tape poretion went bad, but that puppy had phon=
o
in and out, aux inas and outs, you could record via the built in mic, use i=
t
as a receiver, what have you. Plus it had pumping little speakers for a uni=
t
that size.
Im not sure why recording has at once become something everyone does in
their studio and seemingly, from the available comsumer gear, the overall
market coneption is that noone (besides specialists/pros) does outside of
the studio. Im beginning to wonder if eventually there will be NO minidisc=
s
in the consumer cateogory that record via an external mic and allow you to
output at least in real time.
