Yes. The press does, indeed, get special dispensation on this issue. 
They can, with proper credentials, get stuff either shipped on the 
same flight locked, or carry the allowable size luggage on board. I 
do understand that one has to be connected with a recoginzed media 
entity (CNN, Fox News, NBC, ABC, etc., or local stations of note).
