I've seen very little difference powering MKH, and I'm always powering
two. I would guess more like 10 to 15 minute decrease. A MKH-20 only
draws 2ma.

You must still be using the original capacity NIMH, I get nearly 4 hours
with the new GP 2000 batteries. I've not got a exact figure, I've not
specifically tested. I ran a continuous record test on the 1800's back
when I first got them, and was getting about 3 hours and 45minutes. That
was with the display continuously illuminated. And not powering any
mics. I've not tested since.

In my practice I don't usually run the batteries down all the way. NIMH
can be partially recharged with no problem. When on a field foray I
usually plug the portadisc into the car inverter during the day when not
in use. So, most of the time I'm never that far down. I stay well ahead
on battery recharging. It's rare that I even have to switch to the
second set for the Portadisc. I switch sets occasionally so that both
sets are used often enough and kept fairly well charged.

If you turn off the digital output under the System menu, you will save
some battery usage. Just turn it on when needed to transfer to computer.
I'd not be surprised if that saved as much current as a MKH-20 draws.
