The transformer will reduce the amps noise but not the mics internal
noise. In that I run a pair of me-62's with a MZ-R55 I will give the
opionion that the mic noise is more of a concern than the amp noise
but should not be disregarded.
I decided against the matching transformer because I found a cheap
and quality balanced line driver ic that also gives a 6 db gain. It
has the added advantage of plugging in on the recorder's unbalanced
mic and because it converts to balanced also permits you to run up to
400 ft of mic cable if you desire. Cost will come in at a fraction of
two xformers.
This has made it up on the winter sound project list to #4. I pray
this to be done by 2/15 or I will have to postpone spring this
comming year. I will post a comment on it when I am done as to if I
am successful and how it was done. Cost will come in at a fraction
of two xformers. I also welcome Walt to complete and post a
prototype for consumer minidisc users of this. I know he has a few
of these chips to play with as well.
