Rich Peet, you said it is nighttime when you enter the woods to
record deer. Is it because you find them to be more vocal at night,
or because they bed down for most of the daylight hours? During my
nature walks last October i found them vocal between 8 and 10 a.m.
and again around 4 o'clock and dusk. This year i will take some walks
after dark. I also bought an omni microphone and will leave it in a
tree, with the minidisc, as you suggested. It sounds like the best
idea i've heard of yet for recording deer, so thanks for the
suggestion. The deer seem to make the sounds i am after during the
rut or the pre rut, and i never heard them make it on my walks for
the last 40 years, or on any nature show. I should be in trying to
record now, but the seller from ebay just mailed out the minidisc
yesterday, so it will be a few more weeks. This will give me time to
build the homemade parabolic with the dish i ordered from Doug and
the ECM-145 lapel mic. i purchased. I should still have a month to
get that vocalization. Do you have them responding when and if you
playback? The reason i ask , is because i finally purchased a
playback system i like.
