There are also some quick release systems in painter's poles that could
be easily adapted. As they sit, they may make some creaking noises. Not
all of those are a threaded system. They are a bit bulky and overkill
for the weight of a mic. They would be hard to hold overhead for long
periods. I recently used a couple painter's poles, the extensible
aluminum ones, for the handles for some new dipnets I made, custom
shaped for catching frogs. Those are working out pretty well. In that
case, I removed the quick release end and bonded the stainless steel
hoop into the end of the tubing.
