I'll chime in with positive things to say about the PC software I use,
which is Samplitude Producer.

It's a very full-featured multi-track recording, editing, mastering and
production environment.  By default it performs all manipulations with
phase-coherent, 32-bit floating point math ~ the upshot of which is its
audio engine sounds great.

I value it in the kind of work I do because almost anything you would like
to do, you can do "non-destructively" in real-time.  Ie, you can grab drag
handles and make fade ins, fade outs, change gain, etc.  No little files
are made... it's all calculated on the fly.

The newsgroup alt.sekd (pointers from www.samplitude.com) is a great
all-around DAW/studio recording resource, in addition to being a great
place to get volunteer technical support. The developers hang out in the
forum fielding queries, too.
