The end of MD for serious recording won't be due to ATRAC. It will be because devices with higher sampling rates become affordable. Just as DAT replaced cassette tape, DVD-Audio (24 bit samples at 96 or 192KHz) will replace MD. MD will become just another way to play MP3s (Some would say this day has already arrived). Deva, Nagra and HHB are showing the way. Some company is going to combine an Apogee Mini-Me preamp with a 20GB 2.5inch removeable hard disk, price it at $1000, and start a revolution. I will agree that minidisc is a great place to start. I recently bought a couple of Sony MZ-R50s on Ebay for $100 each. Combine with a used mic, put a couple of AA batteries in your pocket, and start recording. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
