Marantz product manager Matt Jarvis wrote: ...The Marantz solid state recorders do record uncompressed...Our next machine will take the 5 gig drives... This is good news! The 5GB Toshiba drive in PCMCIA packaging costs about $325 today, and continues to decline in cost each month. 5GB will hold about 7 hours of uncompressed 16 bit stereo WAV recordings. Wish list for the new Marantz model: -- small memory buffer while in record/pause (as in HHB Portadisc, Sonifex Courier) -- somewhat louder built-in speaker (200 mW is too anemic) -- directory structure that supports subdirectories for the PCMCIA disc (to organize many hours of material) -- phantom power on both XLR inputs Thanks for listening. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
