What I would do is display an empty stereo file on CoolEdit. Then open the 
two individual files you want to display in mono screens. Now copy one of 
the two onto your clipboard (highlight the selection, press CTRL-C to 
copy). Now go to the blank stereo file and paste the selection on your 
clipboard to the  left track by clicking in the left track side only and 
pressing CTRL-V. Now do the same for the other file, placing it onto the 
right track. Now you can see both selections at one time, one on top of the 
other.
